National health deprivation levels indicate a worrying decline in good health reported amongst older adults.
Funding from the Longleigh Foundation will support a range of healthy ageing initiatives amongst Stonewater’s Retirement Living schemes. The focus of the project will be on optimising opportunities for good health, so that older people can take an active part in society and enjoy an independent and high quality of life.
Nine ‘health hubs’ will be established in larger retirement living schemes within local authority areas that present the highest health deprivation levels. Health and Wellbeing Ambassadors will be recruited across Stonewater’s staff base to co-ordinate the following activities from these hubs:
In addition, a series of ageing well and awareness events will be held across the wider retirement living portfolio; ensuring the project can reach out to over 2,000 residents in schemes across England.
The project is focused on longer-term sustainability, it aims to establish a platform and evidence base for attracting health funding at a local level for the delivery of tenure neutral improved health and wellbeing service propositions.
